Apprentice gains permanent position

YLF Marketing team Liam Derbyshire and Sam White
15th August 2017

At Your Legal Friend (YLF), we put a strong emphasis on staff development and actively encourage employees to grow within their roles and reach their potential. In line with this, we have a number of apprentices working with us in different areas of the business.

Sam White has recently completed his Level 3 Digital Marketing Apprenticeship with us and has been successful in obtaining a permanent position within the Marketing team as a Marketing Assistant. Sam had the following things to say about his experience so far:

What made you want to do an Apprenticeship?

"I chose an apprenticeship over university as I wanted to get real world experience. It allowed me to get training both on the job and externally at a college. I also gained a nationally recognised City & Guilds qualification."

What did you study and why?

"I studied digital marketing for my qualification. I always had an interest in journalism and I wrote for my local newspaper and online music magazines whilst I was studying creative media at college. As well as this, I started my own blog. I ended up enjoying marketing the blog on social media and search engines as much as I did writing for it."

What first attracted you to YLF in comparison to other firms?

"What first attracted me to YLF was the focus the company puts on the development of their employees and how much they value the people that work here."

What was your first week like at YLF?

"HR and the recruitment team at my apprenticeship provider managed to get me started very quickly after my interview. I was given a full induction to the company and my department, and support was available whenever I needed it so I felt that I would be able to settle in quickly."

What has been the best thing about your apprenticeship?

"The best thing about my apprenticeship has been having the opportunity to study and gain a qualification at the same time as getting real world experience working in marketing."

Are they any projects you have particularly enjoyed working on?

"One of the projects I have enjoyed most is improving the YLF website. It’s a good feeling to be able to see the progress of something you have worked hard on. I’ve also enjoyed using social media to grow the company’s online following and share stories such as this one!"

What has been the most valuable thing you have learnt about working?

"I think the most valuable thing I’ve learnt is that you will surprise yourself with how much progress you can make as long as you’re eager to learn and willing to work hard."

Where do you see your career going now?

"I hope to continue to develop my skills in marketing at Your Legal Friend, take on new projects and contribute to the success of the business."

What would you say to anyone else considering an apprenticeship with YLF?

"I would definitely recommend YLF to anyone looking to start an apprenticeship. I have been able learn new skills in different areas of marketing while still having an input and feeling like a valuable member of the team."

We are very proud of Sam and the way he has grown in his confidence and abilities since he joined the firm and we look forward to him developing his skill set even further.
